HOW TO LOOK GREAT IN PICTURES!!!!

Let's Face it...selfies are everywhere. Mostly enjoyed and taken by newbies under thirty
who look fantastic  no matter what the angle is. But really who the hell over fifty wants
to waste their time trying to send pictures of themselves that actually look good out to the
universe . That's exhausting and way too much trouble.

So I thought I'd do something good for all of us and do an unplugged sort of interview
with the genius that I  let take my pictures. He's awesome and talented and you have to admit, a
freakin genius with photo shop.

So here is Leigh Thompson......the young beauty queen flock to him. But there's a reason for
that. And he's really nice  and pleasant to us older chicks. Which is  another reason to use him for
your next big pic.
Thanks Leigh

HAPPY GALENTINES DAY-----A NEW TRADITION!!!

I like new traditions. And I like new traditions that are derived from television
shows like Seinfeld's Festivus for the Rest-of-us. So what's not to like about a
day to celebrate your gal pals?

Lets face it at our age many of us have discovered that Valentines Day has lost
a little bit of it's lustre. I mean who can compete with the first time you got a real
Valentine from a boy that didn't have a box of conversation hearts taped to it. The
first time you both wanted to celebrate it preferably in a naughty way with lots of
alcohol . After that it can only go downhill. Then the hubby starts
the big sneak out on the night before and there are flowers and a card still in a
CVS or Wahlgrens bag. Really? Or the floral delivery guy slips up to say  that this
was a last minute frantic delivery and some dumb guy slipped him a twenty spot to
do it..

Some of us no longer have a significant other. At our age men are dying like flies.
And then again there are some of us that are still crazy about it . Bless you.
Remember to give him (or her) with as the Spice Girls say.....Give then what they
want....what they really , really want. That is not to be confused with the ads for some
mens clinic that says what they really really want is probably not what they really want
.....read between the lines.

The best way to say I love you is to go out of your way, suprise them pull out all the stops.
Go for it. I confess I still send a Valentine packages to my kids and their pets. Nothing
says Valentines Day like a chew toy.

If you don;t have a sweetie ...no need to feel left out. Celebrate  Galentines Day with your
buds your sisters, your mom's , the guy in the office who gets your coffee perfect.
Go out for dinner, leave them a treat, go to a movie. Enjoy. because love is always
worth celebrating no matter how many times you've been hurt of disappointed.

So even now..at my age....love is all around. Hey that's a line from Love Actually.

Yep...still in love with love. The picture frame says...wouldn't you agree baby you
and me got a groovy kind of love. That about says it all.
What's your take?

TOO OBIT TO QUIT-LEAVING YOUR LAST IMPRESSION!!!!

Ok...it may sound a little ghoulish. But seriously , at our age we have to come
to terms with reality. And the reality is, one day we will be leaving this world.
A friend's  mother told her, flat out,  that it's never too early to think about
getting  your obituary picture ready--you're not getting any younger. WTF

Hmm. She's right. You can't just pawn off that picture from high school or the
beauty queen shot when you were in your twenties. No one is going to be
impressed with that. And they're not going to be fooled either. You don't look
like you did in your twenties or thirties. No you don't. Not even with all the
fillers and face lifts and lip enhancers. Sixty is not the new twenty. You need
a new picture.

Now if you don't want to be morbid (remember I like zombie shows) than think of
it this way. You need to have your award picture ready for when you are recognized
for all that hard work you do. That picture that says what a fantastic volunteer/
educator/physician/businesswoman you are.

This isn't something you can leave up to other people. Seriously. I bet your husband will
pick out a picture he loved, when you were young with convertible hair and a stomach you
could bounce a dime off . I know this is something I don't really want to think about.
I live in fear that if I get ill and go into a coma that I'll wake up with freaking gray hair...
or that my family will put me in a casket looking like a third world hooker. Yikes.

But ladies. It doesn't have to be a bad thing. Lets face it even Victoria's Secret models
are victims of Photo Shop. Girls in their twenties are using it to slim down their
arms on selfies. Movie stars are "shopped," Maybe even Kate Upton. So what the hell ?
Find a good photographer and tell them you want todo a Full Monty....Like I did.
Rest in Peace...you bet I will with a killer picture that seriously was taken at age 63 and 1/2.

THE FILLER CONUNDRUM!!!!!

Dee

I think I might be the only Middle Aged woman on the Planet that hasn't tried a filler.  And you know how I always want to be a truthful blogger.  So today, I confess,  I had a treatment with Sculptra, a filler that works along with your own collagen to build back the lost volume in your face. Which of course , is where the sags and folds and other little bug-a-boos happen.

I did my research and I like the background of Sculptra. First of all it was invented in a Scandinavian Country. you know where beautiful blondes called Sven and Lars and Inga hang out. Even better than that it was developed for AIDS patients for the hollow look that the disease inflicted. It has a noble beginning.

It was totally a piece of cake. I'm kind of a wuss with needles, especially around the eyes. I have avoided Botox because of that. After all, that what bangs are for. Right? .The skilled aesthetician put on  a numbing cream and she did two sticks on each temple. Bang and bang. Not too awful. Believe me, being the mother of three and having an orangutan tear out my earring prepared me well for this. Seriously it didn't hurt.

After ice packs were put on my face temporarily I had a little laser treatment wit the brand new Alma
Harmony XL. Again painless....and wow.I noticed results right away. Those nasty little lines were less. And the best thing is...this filler gets better with time as the collagen rebuilds. . So the results today are not the end results.  You  can repeat the procedure until you are in love with the results. . It's subtle and not artificial.

I'm sold. If you live in Oklahoma City go to the Open House this Saturday  and see for yourself. It's at 4400 N.W. 63rd street at the Skin Sanctuary at Hefner West Medical Center. There will be refreshments and give aways and live demos this Saturday the 19th from 6-8. Well worth it.

p.s. will give you a peak at the end results soon

BIGGER BOOTY...BETTER HEALTH..... WHAT??????

Kim Kardashian scores touchdown with Miles Austin - National

When did this happen??? When did having a big ass become not only
a great feature, but also a good health predictor? When did FAT BOTTOM
GIRLS become de rigeur? (no offense Queen) I guess it all started with the
Kardashian...and the lyrics of lots of rap songs. I remember my daughter
used to ask me to rap " shawty had them apple bottom jeans...with the fur.....
." by T Pain  much to the delight of her friends. Even weirder that I actually
knew the words .

Now, having  "junk in the trunk" gets an even bigger plus. Oxford University has
found that it's better to have fat on your ass than on your stomach. That's right.
Apparently the boost of a big booty is that the fat back there or "gluteofemoral" fat
actually helps as a buffer in mopping up other fat and breaks down more slowly.
All of this reported in the International Journal of Obesity.

Well you know the Karfashian girls are donning their thongs and laughing out
loud. And for the rest of us ...well sometimes gravity shifts and sometimes it
doesn't. So rejoice if you are one of the ones who has to say "does my butt look
big in this?"........ and start twerking ,baby if it doesn't.

A link that focuses on butt building.

HONEY PIE!!!!

the four & twenty blackbirds pie book!

I don't know about you but pie is not the first sweet its-not-good-for-you-butit-tastes-like- heaven sweet treat that comes to mind. But think about it. It's the staple of your childhood memories.
And seriously, pie right out of the oven is something to behold. We've done the cookies, the whoopie
pies  and the cupcakes and even the cronuts (haven't tasted that one yet)  so it was inevitable that the pie (hopefully not the hunble variety) is our next foodie trend.

We have the Pie Junkies in our hometown.....but this recipe is from a Brooklyn. Enjoy!!!

Salty Honey Pie
Serves eight to ten
For the 9-inch double crust
Ingredients
1¼ c. unbleached all-purpose flour
½ tsp. kosher salt
1½ tsp. granulated sugar
¼ lb. (1 stick) cold, unsalted butter, cut into ½-inch pieces
½ c. ice water
2 tbsp. cider vinegar
½ c. ice
1. Stir the flour, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Add the butter pieces and coat with the flour mixture using a bench scraper or spatula.
2. With a pastry blender, cut the butter into the flour mixture, working quickly until mostly pea-size pieces of butter remain (a few larger pieces are okay; be careful not to overblend).
3. Combine the water, cider vinegar, and ice in a bowl or large measuring cup.
4. Sprinkle 2 tbsp. of the ice water mixture over the flour mixture, and mix and cut it in with a bench scraper or spatula until it is fully incorporated.
5. Add more of the ice water mixture, 1 to 2 tbsp. at a time, using the bench scraper or your hands (or both) to mix until the dough comes together in a ball, with some dry bits remaining.
6. Squeeze and pinch with your fingertips to bring the dough together, sprinkling dry bits with small drops of the ice water mixture, if necessary, to combine. Shape dough into a flat disc.
7. Flour a flat surface, then roll out dough into a 12- to 13-inch circle. Carefully place dough in 9-inch pie pan, trim hanging edges, and crimp. Wrap pan in plastic and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight, to give crust time to mellow. (Wrapped tightly, the dough can be refrigerated for 3 days or frozen for 1 month.)
For the filling
Ingredients
¼ lb. (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
¾ c. granulated sugar
1 tbsp. white cornmeal
½ tsp. kosher salt
1 tsp. vanilla paste (Nielsen-Massey makes a readily available one)
¾ c. honey
3 lg. eggs
½ c. heavy cream
2 tsp. white vinegar
1 to 2 tsp. flake sea salt, for finishing
1. Have ready the frozen or refrigerated pastry-lined 9-inch pie pan.
2. Position a rack in the center of the oven and preheat the oven to 375°.
3. In a medium bowl, stir the melted butter, sugar, cornmeal, salt, and vanilla paste.
4. Stir in the honey and the eggs one at a time, followed by the heavy cream and vinegar.
5. Remove the pie shell from the refrigerator or freezer, place on a rimmed baking sheet, and strain the filling through a fine-mesh sieve directly into the pie shell (or strain it into a separate bowl and then pour it into the shell).
6. Bake on the middle rack of the oven for 45-50 minutes, rotating 180 degrees when the edges start to set, 30-35 minutes through baking.
7. The pie is finished when the edges are set and puffed up high and the center is no longer liquid but looks set like gelatin and is golden brown on top.
8. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack, 2-3 hours.
9. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
10. Reheat or serve at room temperature. (The pie will keep for 4 days in the refrigerator or at room temperature for 2 days.)
