YOU CAN ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT!!!!!

and interior design

Thanks to the Internet and a host of savvy websites you can do whatever
you want in terms of home decorating. No more being tied to the trend of
the moment. No one dictating to you what colors to use. I have always been
a big fan of doing whatever I wanted. Many of you probably cringe at some
of my choices...like the sun-in-your-face-yellow walls in my kitchen. But
I love them. They make me happy in the morning. And truly, what can do that
short of a Bloody Mary followed by happy-pills.?

I wanted to make my little television room blue and white to match my blue and
white kitchen an voila. I looked on line. Googled blue and white chevron
carpet. Blue sofa...blue and white Ikat chairs and before you know it I had a
room. They were shipped free and saved me days of endless searching. because
believe me...blue and white was not available in my town.

So here it it....it may not be your taste...but it's just what I wanted. casual , a
little bit modern, a little bit traditional. 100 per cent me!!!!.

If you are going for something a litle more vintage...a little more elaborate check
out Nifty Thrifty , ShopHers, Vaunte ,  and Byronesque.

Still can't find it. Buy thrift shop chairs and find fabric and recover them. A little more
leg work...but some of my favorite pieces are from that effort.

30 HOT CELEBS OVER 50!!!!!!!

It's always important to check out what's out there. Let's face it, as girls we've been
checking out the competition since we were hanging upside down on the jungle gym.
The nice thing about getting older is that you can simply sit back and admire other
beautiful women . Reality has a good way of sorting out the green eyed monster and
keep you being grateful for the things you do have. SURE. You know we still look
and we still compare. But we also know at this point that beauty alone doesn't guarantee
us a happy life. Which is a big damn relief. Once you get that figured out accepting
yourself is way easier.

But let's hear it for the women over 50 that can still get a second look. We admire you,
we love the roles you play , and we love the example you set.

IF YOU WERE BORN BEFORE 1973 --DON'T WEAR THIS.

OK...let's just go ahead an admit it...sometimes we like to shake things
up a little bit. You know, get out of the mold and shock people, just a tiny bit.
But if you're a boomer...well you just have to be aware of what you look like.
I always run those iffy items by my daughter...and believe me , she puts me
straight. But ladies  we have to use a little common sense. If Pretty Little Liars
or Gossip Girl is dictating your wardrobe , you are probably looking a little
off. What's fabulous on twenty five year olds doesn't always translate. Just saying.

Does that mean I'm going to give up my leopard coat, or carry my sparkly bag with the enormous bow from time to time now. That's as bad as wearing five designer logo items at once.
Subtle is sexy for us.

Here's an article that tells it like it is. Read it and have a good dump out in
your closet. I'm certainly going to !!

AND THE OSCAR GOES TO......

BostInno's 2013 Oscar

Well it's all over for this year. Some surprises, some givens, and some things
that just weren't meant to be. Seriously since when should the wife of the
President of the United States be involved in giving out the golden dudes.. Oh yes,
that's the same gal who was doing the evolution of dance on late night tv. Really.
Since when does entertainment and the presidency mingle together like truffle
oil on french fries. Lady, I am all for your programs to get kids to eat healthy and
stay fit. But it just kind of ruins it when you are part of the Hollywood starve-til-you
drop annual event we call the Academy Awards.

Older chicks, you did us right at the event. And seriously Seth , next time bring back
the gals. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey  might be worth considering. Babs, you looked
pretty hot, with some pretty revealing fabrics and legs that got the point across without
the awkward Angelina Jolie robot leg stance. Jane Fonda , what can we say. You do over
seventy right. Absolutely right. Meryl Streep looked her elegant self . We were well
represented and looked well groomed and engaging, unlike a certain blue lipped youngster
who looked like she just woke up from her coffin.

Shine on ladies.!!!!!

DITCH THE DOUBLE CHIN IN YOUR NEXT PICTURE!!!!

I got so much response on the double chin article I had to expand it even more. I
know that the biggest boomer dread is having your picture taken. Sort or like being
slapped in the face with a big dose of reality. So we avoid it as much as possible.
But until that fat dissolving double chin thing becomes a reality we have to depend on
the tricks of the trade. Since I'm fortunate enough to work with some of the best
photographers on the planet I know that lighting and positioning subjects can make a
world of difference. Look at the pictures of this pretty girl before and after. You can
do that too!

IT'S WEDNESDAY --SO YOU SHOULD LOOK LIKE CRAP!!!

middle aged women skin care

A new study came out today that say that women look their worst on
Wednesdays.Yep, Wednesdays. So I guess we can cruise through the
rest of the week with no worries.  This was splashed all over the media
as if it were a new finding by the Center of Disease Control. And God
knows if you hear it on mainstream media in the morning it must be true.
I say that tongue-in-cheek since I work for the mainstream media. But
then I'm also working on a country and western reality show called I'm A
Star...and an indie movie called Army of Frankensteins, so what do I know?

I do know that the study was done by St. Tropez tanning lotion. Seriously
how reliable can that be? How do they test this...parading 24 year old Brazillian
bombshells in thongs  on the beach to see their whistle potential?. As if. Let me
tell you, St. Tropez, here is the true test. Take one woman , add a baby with cholic
and a fourth  grader who has to make a catapult for Medievil Day and you'll
see that Monday is just as good a day for looking like shit as a Wednesday.

I looked at myself today...and exactly at three thirty as the study suggested. I was
like WTF....I'm alive and walking. I can still bend down without passing out, I still
have hair and my mind is still somewhat sharp. Hey I am good to go.  So take that
St. Tropez.

There are a few flaws in your theory...like does that hour of ghastly doom reflect time
zones...or do we have a wave of women in time zones looking ugly . Sort of like the
wave at an NBA game. or maybe it's like on Seinfeld where we look good in some
light  and bad in another.

After all...I was perfect once and so were you . One day when we were  nineteen and
we were stunningly perfect. Too bad we didn't even know it. And I bet that was on a
Wednesday at exactly three thirty.

OH HELL NO!!!!

I nearly died last week when I saw people ( men, women and children)
out and about in pajama bottoms. Seriously. How damn lazy do you have to be to wear your Hello Kitty fuzzy pajama bottoms to the Mall. I've even seen some fashionistas with matching bunny slippers. Who are these people? And why oh why would they want to look like they just rolled out of bed. Unless you're a Victoria's Secret model , nobody should look like they just rolled out of bed.

What's even worse is that the fluffy p.j.'s drag on the floor and they look dirty and unkept. I am perplexed. Promise me people, you won't take your pajama rama bottoms out of the country. Americans are the worst dressed people on the planet in the eyes of every Italian/Brit/German/Brazilian/Spaniard/well let's just be real and say everyone.

We can't ignore it any longer. Harrods in London used to have a ban on women  wearing tights as bottoms. Any not many bottoms, believe me, can pull off that look. Then came sweatpants. And unless you are a jock in between games you have no business in those either. Come on people, they aren't that comfy, and they look like shit.

Let me tell you what comfy is . Comfy is a great pair of Eileen Fisher skinny leg pants with a great sweater or tunic. Comfy is looking good enough that if you died in a plane crash or a piano fell on your head....people would stay "oh she looked so stylish." Our age group can't afford to be badly groomed or sloppy. Not that I don't look like crap (probably a lot more than I'd care to admit)  from time to time. But it's amazing what a great pair of sunglasses and fabulous accessories can do to hide it.

Listen here PJ fans. While you are sashaying around looking like Walmart on crack, being quite the rebel without a cause ( other than being offensive) , I am scoring a free upgrade to a first class ticket on an international flight. True story Enough said.

HELLO GORGEOUS!!!!

Past our prime? Too old to turn heads? You have got to be kidding. Here are some ladies who we think are aging pretty gracefully. Who's your favorite? Better yet send us your real life picture. We've got a lot
more living to do Boom Chicks!!!!

Here's Jill from Home Improvements. Tim Allen's long suffering wife.
Well she can't be suffering too much if she looks this good at 61.

Oh Chrissie You're So Fine. You're so fine you blow my mind.
She is 66. Freaking amazing. Three's Company's Suzanne Sommers
is still looking great and telling us how in her new book "Sexy Forever."
haven't read it. but.........I'll have whatever she's having!!!!!

About Suzanne Somers

We love you Goldie. You are 67...but you still look fantastic..
Wouldn't you love to see her in another First Wives Club type movie?
If you're looking for a great script , Goldie, I have one...which I wrote
with my buddy Joanne Lechleiter called the Estrogen Files.

Goldie Hawn

La-La-Lucci. You are looking great lady at age 67. Never watched your soap, but
love your legend. I bet she's still breaking hearts...and even better, she's a hell of
a good businesswoman.

WHO ARE YOU, STEVIE NICKS????

Kirstie Alley Is Fatter Than

What on earth are we thinking? Why do middle aged women feel compelled to look like gypsies/aging hippies/peasant women from the Middle Ages?. What could possibly compel us to wear long saggy, flowy clothes that look like we just hiked from Uzbekistan . Seriously, they are so ugly. They make us look out of touch and totally not worth listening to. No offense Stevie Nicks, I loved your style when you were in your twenties. You rocked. But somehow , some idiot designers re giving our age group a bad name with this refugee look.

Believe me you would never see Barbara Walters or Helen Mirren in these get ups. They have clothing that fits and looks nice. You may say, "but I'm heavy" ," I can't wear tailored things they make me look fat." Are you kidding me?  No one is in the slightest bit fooled by your shape when you're dressed like a sheep herder. You are what you are. Embrace it.

Get in touch with a good tailor, and try classic shapes. They never fail to flatter. Let's face it, you may not have the waistline you had at 19, but I bet your savvy and life experience more than makes up for it. Get a great haircut. Go for killer accessories and simple shapes. You've still got a lot of living to do lady. So go do it with a little dignity.

KNOCKERS UP

When I was a high school cheerleader, this was our pre-game chant. Not that we had to worry about gravity at that point in our lives. But ladies, now is the time to get your boobs in order. Nine out of ten women wear the wrong size bra. I thought I was pretty savvy, I was fitted last year and bought a boat load of new bras and quite honestly felt pretty smug about it. But , like most of us, the weight goes up...then down. This time I was fortunate to have lost a few and I notice the lingerie just wasn't fitting as well. So I went back...Low and behold I needed a new size. Really? Is this just a ploy to keep your local lingerie department financially robust?.

Apparently it wasn't , because I feel renewed and somehow perkier (if there is such a thing for out age group). So here are the tips. Go in try on a size..bend over at the waist and get all that breast tissue down in it. Then opposite hand to opposite breast lift your breast into position. Sounds pervy, but you want it to fit right , don't you? The straps should stay in place and the front should fit snug and the breastbone. Don't hesitate to ask for help. They are on your side. Your clothes will thank you.

Check out recent copy of FIRST magazine at your grocery store. It says it can help you look fifteen years younger with the right bra. What have you got to loose?.

SPLITTING HAIRS!!!!

AKA: Jaclyn Smith

It's a tale as old as time. When you hit forty should you chop off your hair and don a poodle cut or a Dorothy Hamil "do"? .....do you go for the inoffensive short classic Bob, or perhaps a neat bun or chignon? Ditch that I say. Take a look at what 66 looks like with long hair.  That's right, Jacqueline Smith, with gorgeous hair looking quite spectacular.

I don't know if she has hair extensions. Frankly I don't care. But I have to say, from my own experience, that long hair has it's pluses. I grew my hair long quite by accident last year. I was working hard on a reality show and I kept missing my monthly hair trims. So , before I knew it, it was shoulder length. And I love it. Perfect in a pony tail for the gym, and honestly it garners quite a bit of positive attention. At our age, you take what you can get.

Now if you're going to wear your hair long, grey roots are probably not going to cut it. I told my family if I go in a coma, please have Larry come once a month to color  my hair. If I actually knew how much grey I had, I would probably be headed straight back to la-la land.

So how do you feel about it. Long hair or short? Send me your pictures. I have a feeling there are some good looking boomchicks out their sporting a long "do".

NO SPANX!!!!!!

http://www.staylace.com/gallery/gallery44/victorian_showgirls/1.jpg http://www.staylace.com/gallery/gallery44/victorian_showgirls/2.jpg http://www.staylace.com/gallery/gallery44/victorian_showgirls/3.jpgDee
When I was growing up it was a big deal to finally...finally get to wear nylons No more anklets for me...I had arrived. Then came the inevitable question, how the hell do you keep those puppies to stay up. Well basically you had two choices, a girdle or a garter belt. As far as I was concerned there was no choice. Who in their right mind wanted to wear a garment with all the appeal of a Nurse Ratched endorsed straight jacket. They were hideous and they were so tight they made you nauseous. For some off reason some parents favored them. Could it be because they were the most passive aggressive birth control device ever invented?

My personal choice was the garter belt. I didn't realize it's sex appeal way back then. The teen models were not lacy or pretty, they were simply  functional. Then came the birth of pantyhose. A brilliant invention that kept me happy for decade. Then going bare legged kept me even happier. It's been a wonderful life with bare legs, some Origins ginger mouse and me.

So why, why people are we back to SPANX? . They are evil. I don't care how many celebrities wear them on the red carpet, or how much Oprah sings their praises. They are girdles. Sure they are nude colored and have cute packaging, but they are still meant to restrain. I recently worked on shooting a reality show of cute young singers. All these tiny girls wear them. Seriously!!!!. Do you wear them? Do you like them? Please someone give me a good reason to wear them.....or I'm just going to have to prance through the rest of my life with naked legs.
